A Love Letter to All of Those Who Left Their Knives in My Back

Build from those who have put you down.

I once held you high,

Put you on top of clouds,

Let you have trophies, medals, and roses.

I let you have so much,

So much I will never get back.

You still sit upon that cloud that I gave you,

It grows smaller everyday though.

Soon you will fall off,

And lose your trophies along the way.

I gave you my sympathy,

I let you have it in abundance,

I never asked why you needed it,

I just handed it over.

I gave you my gratitude,

I gave you so much,

I ran out for myself.

I gave you my time,

So much that I will never get back,

But it’s okay,

Because broken clocks are still right

Two times a day.

After everything you took from me,

You decided you were bored,

You decided your medals

We’re no longer shiny enough for you.

You kicked me off the could

We once made together,

You let me plumet to the ground,

With the broken bronze you once gave me.

Sure,

It wasn’t the gold I always gave you,

But I treaured it regardless,

Knowing it may be the only thing I would

Ever receive.

Once I hit land,

I realized what had happened.

You took what you wanted from me,

You took all the good you could squeeze out,

Then left me,

With the broken parts you decdided were

Too much for you.

It took me a while,

But I’m better now.

With my own gold medals,

My own silver tropihies,

And my own happiness that I have created.

The small broken bronze you gave me once,

Became a good start,

For the creation of a thousand new medals.

So,

My dearest friend,

Thank you.

Even though I gave you everything,

Put you higher than you have ever dreamed,

And put you,

Before me.

You still left me for the dogs.

After it all,

I have learned to fend for myself.

I have learned to give gratitude sparingly.

I have learned to build under me,

Not others.

Thank you,

My love,

For you created a new person,

In the place of the one

Who knew you.

And the new woman,

Will always have a place in her heart,

For the ones she once loved.

Because she is stronger than her past,

And much stronger than the ones

Who built her.
