Inside sits a little girl, huddled in a corner, crying out her pain.
She knows that there is light past the darkness but she can't bring herself to move.
Those she loves, waiting to tear her down. Those she trust waiting to push her back down.
Those who look at her and only see the flaws in her.
Those she thought loved her, who only want to see her fail.
She doesn't know what to do, she just knows she can't stay.
For she sits in that corner, growing more afraid
Growing to hate, to lie and to make others suffer
She closes her eye against the pain and darkness
Ignoring all around her, pretending it is okay
Years past by, birthdays pass and older she grows
The older she grows that more her heart turns black
Leaving behind the innocent that was ripped away from her
And bringing one who likes to see suffering just as her
Then she is tossed into the world, sleeping under bridges
Eating barely three times a day, wearing clothes that don't match
Shoes falling apart with each step and surviving the weather
She sees those just like her younger self in the life she suffers
She fights to protect them, calling them her own
Slowly she starts to remember what happiness feels like
She trusted the wrong people, got broken more than once
A friend who beat her for something she didn't do
A couple who took her across the country and left her alone
A love who hurt her and didn't care
Though most were because of her choices and her failures
It still broke her inside
Then she met them, a family that cared for her
Barely knowing her name, they took her in
They gave her hope and trust, that she didn't deserve
They gave her a home, clothes and a bed to sleep in
They gave her strength to stand and walk out of the darkness
Now she stands in the sun, feeling free for the first time in years
Feeling a hope she hasn't had since she was a child
A women gets a new life, to be happy at last
