A Bloody Lullaby

I'll make the rain abandon the skies

And intrude on our meaningless lives

The drops of daggers and searing pain

The tears of bloody knives.

The loss of hope that drowns my voice

The heartbeat of a restless soul

A tangle of drained out veins

Hollow eyes; the vision they stole.

My broken nails that fought so hard

To grasp at one more breath

My bloody tongue that wishes to speak

And taste the beautiful death.

A dark chorus sings a hymn

And whispers out of range

A demonic melodious tune

So peaceful and so strange.

My stone heart, hollow of life

My still lungs, given up the fight

My dangling bones, a mess of cracks

My dripping skin, a bloody sight.

A happy ending, is it not?

My malevolent lonely breath

I close my wounded eyes

And taste the beautiful death.

Ashley Holbrook

Writing is a passion that I used to have until my life got too busy. I'm making a solid effort to make time for it again, though.
