9 Things I’ve Learned

For the Laconic Boy

I have never loved a boy with as few words as I did to you.

9 things I learned and

1 thing I forgot

The first thing I learned was that silence does not equal boredom. It does not always equal the annoyed air one might feel when met with silence. It equals a listening ear.

I learned that not all hands are meant to be held. That not every pair of hands are in need of a home in another’s palms. That some hands are fine with finding the warmth of a home inside themselves.

The way one talks about their passion becomes noticeable to themselves when no one answers back. They can hear their own excitement in the words they say and the quick thumping of their heart becomes loud. They're aware of the newfound beauty in themselves yet never noticed how the silence knew all along

As much as everyone loves to be in the middle of the action, you taught me that just stepping away and watching serves a better purpose when you want to see a person’s true colors. Actions speak louder than words after all.

The way you speak my name is only ever a whisper above the sounds of the wind against the leaves but it is a sound that I will only ever hear when uttered. The only noise my ears have learned to pick up even when there are sounds of chaos in the background

Your silence is not listening to my rambling despite the usual routine we go through, it instead replies with a tender voice that speak out unheard thoughts

Those hands do not need a home for you and I are aware of that yet I make no protest when you return. Your limbs fitting perfectly against mine two puzzle pieces completely one another

The excitement buzzes in my ears as words continue to flow out my mouth. I do not expect an answer from you but my words die off as you just smile at me and comment on how passionate I am

You’ve taught me how to watch others’ actions rather than listen to their words yet the world is much more colorful when you’ve been placed in the eye of the storm

One thing I’ve forgotten is that these are only but words and you are only but a boy — two things that will never cross.
