300 Miles

A Poem

I’m sorry,

I’m sorry for not understanding myself

I’m sorry for the pain I’ve put you through just so I could get answers

You didn’t deserve what I did and yet everyday you love me more than the last,

I’ll never understand.

I gave you a broken mirror and you pieced back together and when you gave it back you said ‘ I know i couldn’t fix it entirely but I’m willing to continue being the glue that keeps it together.’

I’ll never understand

I’ll never understand how you could love me, how you would want to be with a woman so distant.

They say long distance never works out, but you continue to push yourself closer to me.

What once felt like 300 miles away is now 200, and then, 100.

Then eventually you found my heart and made it your home,

Igniting a fire in me that never wants to let go of your warmth, your touch; the flame that burns in your eyes.

I’ll never understand how you could love me, but I’ll continue to cherish it.

I’ll continue to work on a better me so the pain I caused you will disintegrate into ashes.

I don’t deserve you, but You’re still here.

That has to mean something.
