2nd Chances

I am but an empty shell

a carcass of who I used to be.

Whatever is remaining of me

turns to dust under your feet

I was meant to disappear

never to be see or thought of again.

I burn like smoke,

rapid and accending.

You try to grasp me

but hands to slow,

you leap to touch me

a final time,

but your feet stay grounded

in another world I would have stayed,

we would have danced

looked at the stars on summer nights,

but this is now.

We are here.

You alone

me fresh in your mind

hoping that in another life

we get a better chance at what was ours.
