They say writers tend to feel everything ever so deeply,
but truth be told, we aren’t that deep
We write what we wouldn’t dare to say with our voice
and most of our poems—most of our poems are unfinished
Not because of lack of motivation,
but rather because keeping up with our thoughts seems endless
We generate thoughts and ideas from our emotions faster than we can process them,
but we try catching up to these thoughts
because they give us a sense of being alive.
We write to drain our emotions,
We write to feel some sort of closure—
But the only closure we get is the sense of exhaustion.
You see, often times we write to forget,
forget the pain and heartache we feel
and along the way we lose ourselves
Like Van Gogh, we’ve hit an all time low
Masking our depression with metaphors
Gasping for air through the flow of our words.
We poets aren’t that deep.
We just aren’t that deep because our pool has lost depth since we lost ourselves.
Yet we sit here drowning in our own thoughts;
overthinking happens a lot
But every so often, it just so happens that we find ourselves;
We find ourselves at the end of the page we’ve written for over a month.
We find ourselves laying in bed, awaiting for the morning to come
We just find ourselves within our poems.
