If I was a love poet,
I’d written millions of poems for you.
I’d make sure to be gentle with the words and actions I directed towards you
If I was a love poet, I’d talk about you.
How I still think about the first time I met you,
How our lips met for the first time
and I’ll never forget that feeling
Because every time we kiss it feels like the first time all over again.
I’ll never forget how it was to hold you
And how you held me in your arms— put me to sleep while playing with my hair,
That’s the safest I’ve ever felt.
And if I were a love poet,
I’d talk about you.
And somewhere between all of those lines I’d ensure to not forget to include how much you continue to mean to me
And how part of me will always be with you, even if I don’t end up with you.
And if I were a love poet, I’d deliver a poem for you every night just so you’d have something to hold tight to
Just so you could have that reassurance that I somehow am still with you.
And if I were a love poet, there’s so much I’d tell you
Like the fact, that I love being near you—or how you bring so much light to my day
Or how much it fucks me up to not know how you feel about me
Or if you ever did,
But if I were a love poet, despite all of that, I’d still write to you
because at the end of the day, I’d be hoping to find you
