Winter's Solstice

The Beauty in the Frost

The stereotypes of winter only slightly differ,

to some they only like it because they can get

away with mixing Eggnog with their liquor.

Others however have a different opinion,

and here are some examples given.

"The snow falls from the sky like the ends of Q-tips."

One observes with a frown upon their lips.

"It's too cold this time of year."

Complains another with a red tinted nose

that matches each ear.

Children tend to be disappointed

when the snow that they see,

isn't the kind of unique that they saw

on How the Grinch stole Christmas

while watching TV.

I see more than this though

I have to say,

and I wish someone took a second

to understand why I think this way.

Yes, they all made valid points

each in their own right,

but maybe there is more to this season

than our comfort at stake for more than a night.

You see when I look at snow

I see a blank of white,

cloaking the earth below my feet

and stretching out further away from my sight.

At just the right angle

their is an artistic beauty to all of the crystals you see,

when the sun glints upon them

like the thousands of diamonds

each one of them could be.

"The trees look dead though." claimed one child in dismay,

but he quickly got excited when I told him that

he may be able to have some hot chocolate

after he went outside to play.

I think they may never see snow

with the eye of an artist,

even as it glints with the stardust tears

of their beloved and departed.

About the Creator

Stephanie Lifton

Hi! You will soon find different varieties here. I am a writer and a poet, though I am still passing some stepping stones with this. I get wrapped up in the poem sometimes and it may turn out long in the end, so I apologize in advance. :3
