What the Heart Wants

A Poem

It’s a peculiar thing, isn’t it?

the way you can feel your heart pull

towards things maybe not meant for you

like a really chubby kid begging for more cake

That’s the way I yearn for you

like a nicotine addiction I can’t shake

regardless of the number of patches I stick to my skin

The truth is that you terrify me

maybe my heart not only knows what it wants

but what it needs

We could be a collision of two dying stars

that lights up the entire sky

or a near miss

And no matter how much I say it

I don’t think I’ll ever want to forget you

or the way your lips kiss my waist

So I give up babe. Be my drug.
