We Go Forward

And you'll be okay.

We Go Forward

There's no flowery way around it.

We, as humans, go forward

But we mimic through motions as if the past had hooks into us.

We watch our regrets and forget that the choices we made were exactly what we wanted then.

And now we look back, and beg for another chance.

What would assure us that we'd make the right decision then? Even if we had the bad experiences right in our foreheads.

We couldn't convince ourselves of the bad ideas from the good.

It's the closest thing to fate we possess.

We Go Forward

Without those who shaped our lives to be what they are, and we sulk about it.

Through our palms, we fail to slap sense into the gravity that weights our memories.

For we miss the memories, and not the people themselves.

Or we miss the shadow of what the person once was, because we, as humans, grow together

Grow into our own bodies, and stop becoming half of a person for someone else.

You're allowed to be whole.

Even if another has destroyed you,

or you destroyed them.

Picture that person as they wholeheartedly are now, miss them as much as you can, then picture them as the shatters of a conscience they were, miss them terribly, and then Go Forward.

We Go Forward

Because the world tells us we have to.

We don't deserve breaks, or to be taken for anything but workers.

And there's ways we've coped, by turning leisure into work.

Otherwise, we feel like ants, who follow one another and work for the colony.

A small cog in the community, never learning to make our mark on the world out of fear of our lives being cut short.

Short of routine, short of triviality, short of an undead life.

Maybe the world doesn't want us to go forward.

Maybe we're told to stay put, shut down, dissociate, and hide.

The future is terrifying. The past is toxic. The present doesn't exist.

Look left. There isn't a sure way to plan.

Look right. There's no telling if things will be okay.

Look back. There's the mistakes we could have fixed.

Everywhere in between, and the scene engulfs in gray.

Don't look anywhere.

Just step ahead with a lollipop in one hand, and a knife in the other.

A bunny slipper on one foot and a running shoe on the other.

A crinkle of one eye and a bruise on the other.

The odds are against you, aren't they?

Still.

We Go Forward.
