True Love's Kiss

A Poem

True Love's Kiss.

There was a question in her eye as I watched her silent cry.

I choked back my tears and held my breath.

She wanted to know why Mummy and Daddy wouldn’t try.

Why we wouldn’t live together, why I left.

Her tiny chest heaved as I longed to believe.

In an answer that would mend her broken heart.

I said “ Precious, this is no fairytale...

No land of fantasy...

In this real world sometimes things don’t work out...

Just like with Mummy and me”

She said “ please Daddy tell me there is...

There is such thing as a true love's kiss...

I can handle no Tooth Fairy, no Father Christmas...

But there is one thing I long to believe that does exist”...

“Daddy won’t you tell me...

There’s A True Love's Kiss”.

I took her tiny hand in mine.

Laid down my head upon her chest.

I could feel the energy rise inside...

From the emotional storms that were left.

She rubbed my ear with her finger and thumb...

Gently ran her hand through my hair.

I swallowed deep down to the depths of despair.

I laid my truth out bare.

I said “close your eyes now Precious”...

As I laid my mouth to her lips.

I whispered after I kissed her...

True Love does exist”.

“My love for you is eternal.

There is no begging there’ll be no end.

Even when you find Prince Charming...

You’ll always have me...

Your Daddy, Your best friend”...

“So please, baby believe me...

In a world short of real life fairytales it does exist...

I promise you now Precious...

There is a True Love's Kiss.
