The Words

A Poem

They scorch my heart and mind

They rip apart my soul

The ones that aren’t easily said

The ones that go untold

They can dent my pride, a single one

They can shatter my bleeding heart

The ones said in good fun

The ones whispered in the dark

They can insult me or bring me joy

They can help me up or knock me down

The ones that bring a smile

The ones that bring a frown

They can compliment and congratulate

They can snip and sneer

The ones that you say

The ones that you hear

They can make you who you are

They can leave you all alone

The ones written on paper

The ones carved in stone

They are all you are

They are the home you are given

The ones that change your life

The ones that tell you you’re forgiven

They can hurt and they can heal

They can express how you feel

The ones you say out loud

The ones that are “no big deal”

They are the beginning and the end

They are the climax in the middle

The ones that hurt more than the hand

The one that sting a little

So mind your words, everyone

For if what you say is true

Whatever happens after your words

The blame will fall to you
