The Mind's Pollution

A Poem

Skies are clouded, covered in shades of gray

The darkness blocks out the light of day,

I guess that's a metaphor of our minds,

Our own actions pulling down our metaphorical blinds.

We're disgusted at the actions of others,

And we're hypocritical to our sisters and brothers,

We place ourselves above them as though we do no wrong,

As we steer our way through faces we hope to hide among.

We're taught our opinions we should suppress or hide,

But I say it's time to start changing the tide.

Speaking our minds without fear of one lashing out,

It's the only way we can overcome our insecurities and self-doubt.

Instead of attempting to conform to societies wants and needs,

We need to realize that there is no one we have to please,

We should strive to feel comfortable in our own skins,

Not worrying about who is considered too fat or too thin.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,

As we turn another year older,

We need to come to terms with who we are,

And understand that words can leave behind a scar.

You never know the battle raging in someone's life or mind,

You don't know the pain they suffer deep inside,

So think before you choose to speak,

Take the high road and turn the other cheek.

Don't put energy towards focusing on the negativity in life,

Just stay looking at the bright side, no matter your strife.
