The Great Pretend

The great lie

was dressed in white.

It took a lot of effort

to decorate the lot

with pretty flames

dancing in vain

around known faces

hidden in visible cages.

A requested celebration

as a family’s termination.

You smiled behind the smoke

continuing to poke

our soft hearts

to see if our laughs

were still alight

ready for the dead of night.

And a sunflower sea

which I still carry with me.

Because Daisies are horrible,

unfortunately unforgettable:

they concealed the sun

and pointed a loaded gun

at the poor Sunflowers

with no left hours.

But don’t think you’re not to blame

I’m only playing your sick game

with broken hope

and much to cope.
