Stolen Sunset
Summery Nights in the Tropics
Looked out my window to see an orange sky
Couldn't help admiring a magnificent sunset
A superb sight I've so rarely had the opportunity to see
Took my eyes off that spectacle to brush an insect off my chest
And was surprised when I raised my eyes to an overcast sky
Its grey matching that of the turbulent waves of a tempest
Instantaneous darkness it brought
And with it a ferocious wind that tore at my hair and howled in my ears
Heaven's floodgates were thrown wide open
Rain struck the ground like finely shaped arrows
Bringing with it a breeze so cold yet comforting
All of this I would have found satisfying
If my beautiful sunset was not stolen by the rainy night
About the Creator
Olawale Lawal
Words give me life and there's no other form of perfection that comes close to painting exact and vivid pictures with words.
That's what I try to do each and every time I pen down poetry.
