Red

Homeless Poetry

I once saw a man

So red

I thought he was a sunset

In the middle of July

His teeth shined

Like melting icebergs

And you could just tell

That crying

Was the only way he knew

How to say good morning

He stared into the cracks in the concrete

Hoping to find another world

Another side

To his story

But he just got lost in the ground

In the swirls pills could give him

In the lost

That he found

Long long ago

I once saw a man

So red

I thought his heart

Was outside his body

I would’ve been right

If his heart

Hadn’t lost all its red
