Our World

A Poem

The world is fuller than it’s ever been

With people who worship and people who sin

With people and places and noises and sounds

With people whose bodies will never be found

The world is dark in the light of day

With the things that we hear and the things that we say

With the mistakes made and the laws undone

With our kids mislead in their sense of fun

With all the right things that have ever gone wrong

With terror and fear put in hateful songs

The world has gone in a direction unknown

With where it will lead us yet to be shown

We have only to follow the path that is laid

Then take part in a fate that is already made

Fate is unknown and religion unfound

This world to which we’re regrettably bound

There’s no stopping the sounds in the dark of night

That sound which gives shivers; I still feel the fright

The neighbours we know are convicted rapists

The people we love, they seem so racist

We know it all yet we are so dumb

We watch these fights, but nothing is done

Who is there to fight the courts, to fight the laws once more?

Who is here but the poet alone with his words so sure?

The poet is sure; the poet is free

Our world is different…that he can see
