The Battle
Who is this giant, this legend from afar?
Known only in words, read as scholars.
He trapped the traveler and his men in the cave,
Eating two by two, not knowing how to behave.
“No man” fooled the one eye creature, hoping to escape.
Thrusting a spear, blinding the monster bending him out of shape.
Riding the underbelly of the sheep within,
Odysseus, the traveler escapes with the win.
I fight my own one eyed monster,
My own ideas nurtured as a child
Fighting the demons growing as a man.
I shall win this battle, and forever stand.
Seeing the world clearly as a man
Knowing right from wrong.
That one eyed monster killed
Remembered now only in song.
