Jaded Stain

Serrated blade, a jagged edge, stepping out on a window ledge.

Speeding 'round the curve on Heartbreak Ridge,

you see someone jump from the crumbling bridge.

SPLAT!

Brakes lock on the street below,

noise and commotion seem to grow.

Still you drive; thinking only momentarily about the person who'd just died. "Who was it, what was their name, what was their contribution?" Oh well, just another stain.

Serrated blade, a jagged edge, stepping out on a window ledge.

Finally made it home from a less than average day, there's nothing on and no one has time to play.

Boredom gets the best of you, time to play with knives, you slip, cut yourself, pain like fire, cold like ice. Liquid of crimson, flowing slow but free lands on the white shirt bought earlier that week. Oh well, just another stain.

"Clean up the mess" says an inner voice.

You would shut it off if given the choice.

Silence the voices, the echoes from within.

It's been so long ago, when did they begin?

Serrated blade, a jagged edge, stepping out on a window ledge.

Lack of conscience, you just don't care.

Would you do anything asked of you, even if only on a dare?

Last lonely night, and you're put to a dare.

Give the travelers going home one big scare.

Standing alone on Heartbreak Ridge, a lone car approaches.

One look toward them, your ledge slips away.

SPLAT!

Brakes lock up, blood begins to flow,

you now feel nothing and traffic never slows.

Did anyone wonder about you or just write you off as yet another victim who to early paid the cost?

Take your last breath, enjoy it while you can.

The demons you held inhabit all man.

And as much as you think you were special in the end you are chocked up as a serrated blade, a jagged edge, a bloody towel,

a jaded stain.
