Fallen Leaves

POEM

You walk down oak tree lined streets

where fallen leaves and broken dreams lay

disregarded in tear soaked gutters.

The crisp air blows against your skin

meeting chapped lips and flushed cheeks.

Tightening your scarf little by little

you wonder how it'd feel

to stop the rise and fall of your chest.

Leaves crunch under your feet

with each step you take

moving you closer to your destination.

The ground begins to shake

and the world begins to spin

suddenly the sun's fallen from the sky.

Surrounded by darkness you're lost

can't navigate this obstacle course

others choose to call life.
