I placed a foot into river
It was dark and it was deep
Yet rich it was for I could tell
To quench my thirst, I had taken of its waters a measured sip
A sip that immersed me in this enigma of a well
Immersed me so deeply I could see its walls slippery and steep
I had no thoughts as further I through its waters fell
Instead I blended with the sensations and felt time lazily creep by
There seemed to be no bottom to these waters
Like an abyss, they stretched downward as far as I could see
Yet I let myself sink into them with no panic in my heart
For they wrapped me in an embrace so warm and loving
They provided a stark contrast to the cold walls around me
And they never lost their richness as they seeped in through cracks in those cold walls
About the Creator
Olawale Lawal
Words give me life and there's no other form of perfection that comes close to painting exact and vivid pictures with words.
That's what I try to do each and every time I pen down poetry.
