Poem

Seeing the world through a new set of eyes.

Unknowingly becoming a rebel towards things that used to mean the world to me.

When I rose from the ashes, things I did not desire anymore didn't rise up with me.

No longer wincing in the pain from the poison of the snake's venomous bite.

Letting the damning colours of life anew taunt the slithering beast.

This time being mindful of where the creature lurks to avoid its jaws of death, and the lies it tells.

For this rebirth is being spent appreciating the world in all its unknowing splendor.

Listening to the sounds, such as other birds, that I used to take for granted.

Embracing the change of seasons, for they don't last forever as they used to seem.

With each breath I take and actually look at my surroundings, the depth of beauty of the magnificent fields that eternally go unnoticed by others.

Loving the new smells that I thought I would never enjoy.

Been living with such a closed mind, it's time to stop and realize that today may never end up being another yesterday.

I may lay in the ashes to not fly among the phoenixes again
