Beyond First Glance

A Poem

Step and stagger fall to the ground.

Wake to police, and a siren sound.

Two black eyes and headaches remain.

Those who loved you are still in pain.

Choices were made and dreams were shattered.

Was it worth it? I question at times if anything mattered.

Years have passed by, and I look to a reflection,

your eyes staring back to mine.

More of you lives in me than I'd ever imagined,

through me your life defined.

Are you there? Would you approve of me now?

Would you push me forward or hold me back?

You are the voice in my head that I can't silence.

I lose control when these whispers turn to violence.
